For various reasons many of the older 4WD clubs started running closed 4WD events on private land or worse still, dropped 4WDriving and camping trips to the bush, in favour of outings to the theatre or the Zoo etc.

The founders of the discovery club remembered the excitement they experienced at their first 4WD outings and how it made them aware of the bush and the pleasure it brought. So, as the older clubs were moving away from that, there was clearly a need for a club that was dedicated to just 4WD and/or camping, and because we wanted our members to discover the bush and outback it could only be called the Discovery club.

A club that would encourage people to discover the bush and desert regions by four wheel drive. All the clubs' outdoor events contain 4WDriving and/or camping. A club that can offer all kinds of trips. Anything from a simple one day, easy drive affair to a six week trip to the worlds most isolated track like the Canning Stock Route. We wanted to form a club that could show it’s members how best to prepare their vehicles, how to cook a fabulous meal in a cast iron oven over a log fire and have fun you never dreamed possible with great, like minded people.

So The Discovery Four Wheel Driving Club of Australia Inc. was formed.
Just come along to one of our meetings, get involved and discover...

The day started with us running a little late and rushing to Lithgow to make the meet before we were too late. We were just coming off Bells Line into town and I made a remark about the dust in the air - only one problem it was snow! We met the others at the Shell servo outside town and it was blowing a gale and freezing. After quick introductions and a quick chat on convoy procedures we headed down the road led by Ricky, the trip leader and trainer, with Andy, his number two, as tail end charlie.

Our first and best decision was to leave home at 6am, then that became 6.30am and when we finally got away in big Red at 6.45am we knew we were going to be late, just a little, but enough to get the trip report. Wayne was heard on the radio wondering where we were as we passed through Cullen Bullen and when we duly arrived it was a quick smart getaway, all eagre to get into the bush on such a beautiful, sun-shiny day.

A t long last
the club Christmas party trip report is here.
My self The loneys and the Hulberts, all arrived at the lavis lanne servo with in 20 mins of each other, for what was to be a camp finding expedition, along the beach towards anna bay.
All went well and we found a pe beaut spot about 5 k from anna bay, nestled in behind some smallish dunes with a little bit of scrub for securing the big trap.It was a hot day and we were nervous that it would be too hot.
By the time we had erected the huge hulbert tarp it was about 3pm and things were starting to cool down, to what would be a wonderful arvo and night of fun.
We put upo the signs so no one would get lost, both were so vissable it would be easier to get a poke in the eye with a blunt stick than miss them. LOL I wont tell you who but 2 people got lost.
By 6pm we had 22 cars at the camp sight, it was like tent city, and i have to at this point make some special mentions. DOon loney in his new Gu which was a cross between blue and green,
the barber rangie with shithouse in toe, slop slop. Andy vann raalt and donna who drove all the way from west Austraila for the weekend and also the streaker who turned up around midnight, to have the few brave soles still up, in hysterics. nice one sir. There was a very nice little dog running around and a few hot chicks. We had Photographers and we had star gazers, in fact we had it all
The dunnny was a real hit with everyone, and proved to be priceless, well done team Barber, with special mention to Bronny for being the christening bottom.
see you all next year
don goldney

There were just too many people there to mention them all
We partyed into the wee hours and on sunday morning there were a few very poorly people, i do believe we even had some cooling rain
Thanks to everyone for turning up it was a balll

It was a bright sunny Sunday morning as we rolled on into Macca’s car park in Richmond at 9am. Most of the group was already there slurping on coffee and chewing the Macca’s fat. We had one more participant to arrive, as Ricky drove in fashionably late, he grabbed a cuppa and then we made our way west.
